About me

Who is behind the Maths Box?
Hello! My name is Jörn. I am 57 years old, live with my family in Bremen and have been working as a primary school teacher for over 25 years. I studied mathematics and sports at the University of Bremen – two subjects that perfectly demonstrate how important movement, enjoyment and curiosity are when learning.
As a teacher, father of two children and someone who has been standing in front of a classroom for decades, I know that
children learn mathematics best through play – and with a strong understanding of numbers.
It is not simply memorising tasks that leads to long-term success, but understanding numbers, quantities and relationships.
These experiences motivated me to develop Mathekiste. I wanted to create a maths app that helps preschool and primary school children discover maths without pressure – lovingly designed, didactically sound and entirely geared towards child-centred learning.
Today, I am delighted when Mathekiste helps children, parents and teachers to
experience mathematics with joy, motivation and confidence.
